My design projects typically involve developing and finalizing a design concept for your space from start to finish.
Activities in a typical design project include:
- Meeting with you to understand your functional and aesthetic goals for the spaces you need help with. In the case of commercial, retail, and hospitality projects, I also clarify your organization’s brand strategy and brand goals.
- Clarifying and or developing a budget and timeline for purchasing furniture, materials, and products as well as completing the project.
- Developing the most effective layout and floor plan to address your functional needs.
- Developing and finalizing an overall design concept/vision and color palette for your space.
- Identifying furniture, flooring solutions, lighting, accessories, artwork, final paint colors and finishes, and other products and materials that support our final design concept/vision.
- Summarizing all furniture, product, and material details in a project spreadsheet for easy purchasing/ordering.
For design services, I charge an hourly fee. If the scope of your project is clearly defined or easy to clarify, at the start of a project I often can provide you with an estimated low and high range of what my design fees will be.
For projects of a large or more undefined scope, I typically bill by the hour and keep you abreast of my accrued time throughout the project.
Many clients who need design help may have never worked with a designer before and might be unsure whether they can afford to work with me. While some designers charge hourly fees plus a percentage markup on any products they select for the space, I do not. I also have instituted several practices in my business to keep my overhead costs low and my hourly fees affordable.
